Palmer's® Births World's Largest Baby Butter Massage

Kickoff of National Awareness Campaign to Show Parents the Benefits of Baby Massage

Englewood Cliffs, NJ (April 16, 2007) / PRNewswire / – What do you get when you combine thousands of little toes and warm hands with more than 200 pounds of baby lotion in a 900-square-foot area? Palmer's World's Largest Baby Butter Massage! During the 2007 American Baby Faire in Dallas on April 14th, Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula, a leader in the skin care industry and maker of Baby Butter Massage Lotion, conducted a multi-baby massage feat that more than 300 babies and parents went "ga ga" over. The event kicked off a national campaign designed to promote awareness regarding this important bonding activity.

Attachment expert and co-author of "Baby Massage for Dummies," Joanne Bagshaw, MA, is the spokeswoman for Palmer's baby massage campaign. "Having a new baby is an incredible source of pride and joy; however, parenting can also be very difficult and demanding at times," said Joanne Bagshaw, MA, coauthor of "Baby Massage for Dummies." "Palmer's World's Largest Baby Butter Massage was conceived to raise awareness surrounding the pacifying art of baby massage, while showing proper techniques to bond with your baby. Massage can help stimulate or relax baby, and has been known to help soothe a variety of common problems with baby, such as fussiness or colic."

Joanne offered invaluable tips to the record-setting parents in Dallas on how to best massage baby. She advised parents to always be gentle when practicing massage on infants, to remain attentive throughout the duration of the massage and to maintain a relaxed demeanor throughout the massage, all of which maximize the soothing effects on baby. The goal of the Palmer's campaign is to show parents that if done properly, infant massage not only creates an attachment between parent and child, but also releases mood-enhancing endorphins in baby, encourages sleep and calms fussy babies.
