While fashionistas agree that white is hot, wearing it can be daunting for many women. In fact, according to a recent survey of women aged 18 to 24, nearly 55 percent said they are not very comfortable wearing white. Lack of confidence in wearing white can be related to unpredictable "female-related" accidents, especially among women taking birth control pills. Breakthrough bleeding, or irregular or unexpected bleeding between periods, is a side effect of taking the Pill, especially newer low-dose and extended-regimen oral contraceptives.

Eighty percent of women surveyed agreed that this concern could cause reluctance to wear white. The survey was conducted by telephone from May 3 - 9, 2007, by KRC Research on behalf of Ortho Women's Health & Urology among 300 women, ages 18 to 24 and currently taking birth control pills. The margin of error for the overall sample is +/- 5.7 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
