NIKE CAMPAIGN PROVES "FOOTBALL IS EVERYTHING"
All-Star Cast Includes Vick, Urlacher, Tomlinson, Polamalu and Leinart with Don Shula, Jimmy Johnson, Deion Sanders, Steve Young, Lee Corso, Urban Meyer and Marlin Briscoe
BEAVERTON, Ore. (September 5, 2006) - At Nike football never sleeps. There is no fourth quarter. No two-minute warning. And in the life of the high school student athlete, particularly each fall when the air turns crisp and stadium lights dot the horizon on Friday nights, football is everything.
That is also the message and the name of a new commercial from Nike, "Football is Everything," celebrating football across the country at a time of year when the game shifts into full gear at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. The setting of the new ad is a fictional high school, Briscoe High, but it could really be any high school in America that is consumed with celebrating the game and its team.
In the new spot, a follow up to a day-in-the-life of a fictional Briscoe High football player going through preseason two-a-days, the season is kicking off and our student-athlete is grinding through a day of classes leading up to a Friday night game under the lights. His all-star classmates and teammates include professional football greats Michael Vick (Atlanta), LaDainian Tomlinson (San Diego), Brian Urlacher (Chicago), Troy Polamalu (Pittsburgh), and Matt Leinart (Arizona).
Legendary coaches can be seen throughout the spot, as well. Television analyst Jimmy Johnson makes his debut as a teacher at Briscoe High while legend Don Shula, current collegiate coach Urban Meyer, and former player and pioneering African-American professional quarterback Marlin Briscoe return as coaches of the Briscoe football team. Former professional greats Deion Sanders and Steve Young return in cameo roles as do football on-air talents Jill Arrington and Julian Barberie.
Watch closely for college football analyst and former coach Lee Corso as the mascot of the Briscoe High Hawks.
The new spot debuts with an extended 90-second version on NBC 's broadcast of the kick-off of the new professional season on Thursday, September 7. A 60-second and a 30-second version will air nationally on general sports and in-game programming. All three versions will air on nikegridiron.com beginning Friday, September 8. A print treatment of the stars from Briscoe High will also run in major sports publications including Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine and The Sporting News.
