Longines and Town&Country Celebrate the 'Women Who Make a Difference' Honorees
WEEHAWKEN, NJ (September 14, 2009) /PRNewswire/ — Longines Swiss Watches and Town&Country magazine are proud to announce the winners of the Women Who Make a Difference Awards. The three outstanding women were chosen in August and were honored during an awards dinner Wednesday evening, September 9th, at Hearst Tower. The evening was hosted by tennis legend and Longines Ambassador Stefanie Graf, Town&Country Editor in Chief Pamela Fiori, and Olympic medalist and Dancing with the Stars winner Shawn Johnson was a special guest presenter.
The 2009 Women Who Make a Difference honorees are Leila de Bruyne, founder and advocate of Flying Kites; Lorri Unumb, policy advisor and counsel for Autism Speaks; and Deloris Jordan, founder of the James R. Jordan Foundation. Each winner was chosen for the extraordinary impact she makes in children's lives within her community. The three remarkable winners received a trip to New York City, an awards dinner in their honor with tennis legend Stefanie Graf and will be featured in a four-page special section in Town&Country's February 2010 "Wonder Women" issue.
The winners were chosen by a panel of judges from Longines and Town&Country.
The Women Who Make a Difference Awards were inspired by Longines Ambassador of Elegance Stefanie Graf because she is a woman who makes a difference every day in children's lives through her organization Children for Tomorrow.
In addition to hosting the awards ceremony Stefanie Graf took time out on Thursday, September 10th, to host the Longines Center Court for Kids. Taking center stage in the iconic and historical Grand Central Terminal was the Longines Smash Court and mini tennis court where Graf played an entertaining tennis exhibition. The children from New York Junior Tennis League and the Billy Jean National Tennis League were all cheers and laughs as they watched and learned special techniques from Graf. Visitors at Grand Central were also able to participate in the Longines Smash Court that accepted donations benefiting Children for Tomorrow.
Children for Tomorrow is a non-profit foundation with the goal of supporting and initiating projects that provide assistance to children and families who have become victims of war, persecution and violence. The foundation was established after many years of contact between Stefanie Graf, medical doctors of the Outpatient Clinic for Refugee Children and their families at the University Clinics of Hamburg-Eppendorf as well as meeting with representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO).
