Groundbreaking Production Shows Everest as Never Before Through the Eyes of Legendary Mountaineers
The Eddie Bauer First Ascent Blog Follows Final Summit Push this Week
SEATTLE, WA (May 6, 2009) /PRNewswire/ — Eddie Bauer's new Born Out There blog brings all the drama of climbing the world's highest mountain to your computer screen. The blog (blog.firstascent.com) takes viewers on the First Ascent "Return to Everest" expedition along with legendary climbers Ed Viesturs, Peter Whittaker and Dave Hahn. Viesturs, Whittaker and Hahn are part of Eddie Bauer's guide team launching the new First Ascent line of mountaineering outerwear and gear. The new blog chronicles their story through daily video dispatches, firsthand commentaries and stunning photography. With groundbreaking production and state-of-the-art technology, crews are climbing alongside the team to deliver new dispatches every day giving viewers an experience of Everest unlike anything ever possible before. The blog is also open to the community to share their comments and questions, with First Ascent guides actively engaged and posting their responses from Everest.
"In just three minutes a day, you can experience the world's highest mountain in a way that's never been done before," says Neil Fiske, President and CEO of Eddie Bauer. "The First Ascent blog gives access to our guide team and their journey with some of the most compelling footage and storytelling about climbing Everest."
Beginning tomorrow, viewers can follow Viesturs, Whittaker and teammate Melissa Arnot as they make their final push for the summit. Fellow First Ascent guides Dave Hahn and Seth Waterfall are also continuing their climb up Everest and are making their way to Camp 3 on the Lhotse Face. Lhotse adjoins Everest and is the world's fourth highest mountain.
"The First Ascent blog gives us a rare opportunity to bring our experience on Everest to readers and viewers at home," says Ed Viesturs, the first American to summit all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks without using bottled oxygen. "The advanced technology and caliber of production allow us to connect and interact with friends and family while sharing our adventure as it happens."
An Everest field production crew of videographers, photographers, editors, and producers are using top-of-the-line equipment and gear — high-definition cameras, Apple MacBook Pro notebooks with Apple Final Cut Pro software for fast, flexible video editing, solar panel chargers, and BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) mobile satellite terminals — to produce and transmit daily video dispatches directly from the mountain.
