Fashion Designer Narciso Rodriguez Unveils New Women's Fragrance

(16 January, 2009 - New York, NY)/PRNewswire/ — This spring, world-renowned American fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez reveals his latest signature fragrance called 'essence', an olfactory homage to the duality of a woman's nature - the intense and the ethereal, the simple and the complex. 'essence' marks the designer's third scent created in collaboration with Beauté Prestige International, the Paris-based fragrance division of the Shiseido Cosmetics Corporation.

As the designer's olfactive signature, musc lives at the heart of 'essence' with a renewed perception and a new vitality. Internationally celebrated perfumer Alberto Morillas magically enhanced the modern heart of musc with radiant notes of rose petals, powdery notes of iris and hints of amber resulting in a floral, powdery musc fragrance.

The 'essence' bottle, a masterpiece in soft-sculpted glass, glows from within its mirrored core. Created by noted industrial designer Ross Lovegrove, its elemental shapes allude to a woman's contours to form an exquisite object of art.

The advertising campaign features supermodel Catherine MacNeil whose imagery radiates warmth and an ultra-feminine sensuality. "I was drawn to her instinctively" says Narciso. Captured by the lens of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the portrait of Catherine reflects the purity of 'essence'… encompassing the sensuality of a woman with the radiance of sunlight.

Alberto Morillas (Firmenich) is a classicist and a modernist whose creative process relies on generosity and emotion. A recipient of numerous awards, Alberto Morillas was honored with the coveted Prix François Coty in 2003.

Ross Lovegrove is a distinguished industrial designer who resides in London. Ross Lovegrove is a humanist inspired by both logic and beauty. Ross Lovegrove has won numerous awards, among them the coveted Royal Designer for Industry in 2004 and has exhibited his work at moma and the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Centre Pompidou (Paris) as well as the Design Museum (London) which has hosted a permanent exhibition of his work since 1993.

The 'essence' range of products includes a 3.3 oz eau de parfum ($100.00 USD), a 1.6 oz eau de parfum ($78.00 USD), a 6.7 oz scented body lotion ($48.00 USD), a 6.7 oz scented shower gel ($40.00 USD) and a 3.3 oz perfumed deodorant ($33.00 USD). 'essence' will be available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue stores nationwide in mid-March, 2009.

Beauté Prestige International was created in 1992 to augment Shiseido's fragrance business with the development of new designer fragrance brands. Beginning with Issey Miyake's L'Eau d'Issey in 1992, the company has slowly and steadily built its brand portfolio to include French designer Jean Paul Gaultier's CLASSIQUE (1993) and American designer Narciso Rodriguez' 'for her' 10 years later. In 2006, BPI USA was selected to administer the sales and distribution of the John Varvatos fragrance and skincare brands, an existing Shiseido subsidiary. Today, Beauté Prestige International's fragrance brands can be found in fine department and specialty stores nationwide.
