Audi's Clean Diesel A3 Drives Halfway Across America On 46 MPG

  • Leading Audi's Q7 3.0 TDI completes second leg of cross-country Mileage Marathon averaging 30 mpg
  • Audi A3 Sportback TDI leads all Marathon vehicles with 46 mpg combined over first two legs
  • Third leg will take Audi TDI fleet from Denver to Las Vegas

Denver, Col. (October 14, 2008) /PRNewswire/ — After driving over 2,800 miles and covering half of the United States, Audi's TDI clean diesel vehicles are passing the real world endurance test by posting admirable fuel efficiency numbers. With about 2,000 miles left in Audi's cross country Mileage Marathon, the Audi A3 TDI has averaged 46 mpg over the entire drive, the Audi A4 vehicles have averaged 39 mpg, and the Audi Q5 TDI vehicles averaged 33 mpg. The Audi Q7 TDI vehicles, clean diesel SUVs which will be the first TDI vehicles available in the Unites States early next year, averaged an excellent 28 mpg over the first two legs.



Along the route, teams of drivers and journalists are competing for the best efficiency totals based on miles-per-gallon and average speed. During the four day second leg, the lead over all vehicles in fuel economy with 46 mpg was the Audi A3 Sportback TDI.

They will be present at the refueling of all press vehicles each night, as well as the signing and sealing of the fuel filler doors during that time. Furthermore, they will award the winners of each of the four stages for the driving team that achieved the most efficient mix of fuel economy, distance, and speed. These calculations will be derived from vehicle data obtained every 24 hours.
