THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION ADDRESSES STIGMA DURING WORLD ALZHEIMER'S MONTH

Story Summary

THIS REPORT IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION.

THERE ARE 36 MILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE LIVING WITH DEMENTIA. YET, DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE ARE OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD, PREVENTING PEOPLE FROM SEEKING TREATMENT AND SUPPORT.

SEPTEMBER IS WORLD ALZHEIMER'S MONTH, AND YOUR CHANCE TO REDUCE THE STIGMA SURROUNDING ALZHEIMER'S.

KATIE THOMPSON IS 22. FOR TWO YEARS, SHE'S BEEN CARING FOR HER MOTHER WITH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE:

"I had to leave my job, because management could not be more flexible to my caregiving schedule. It was more personal when friends stopped visiting. Many people really don''t understand this disease. They think it's forgetfulness, but there's so much more. Being a caregiver is emotionally and physically draining and I admit, the patience and time needed to care for someone with Alzheimer's can be overwhelming."

THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION IS CALLING ON YOU TO "GO PURPLE" THIS MONTH TO HELP REDUCE STIGMA AND END ALZHEIMER'S.

WEAR PURPLE ON SEPTEMBER 21st TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT.
