CALCIUM WITH YOUR COFFEE

Story Summary:

Nat sot (coffee latte brewing-steaming sounds: & order call-out "vanilla latte") it's the caffeinated-call-of-the-wild for coffee lovers. Can't start your day without that café latte? Here's one habit that's healthier than you think…says UCLA dietician Susan Bowerman. Susan Bowerman, registered dietician, UCLA School Human Nutrition:

"Lattes can be a healthy source of calcium. People forget that one latte, a 12-ounce latte might have as much calcium as a full glass of milk. So, if you have 8 ounces of milk in a 12 ounce drink, that's about 25-30% of your calcium needs for the day."

Americans drink more coffee than anyone else, 3 cups daily, most of it with milk. Yet, a new survey shows most don't realize lattes are a bone building calcium source. Plus, coffee is loaded with anti-oxidants that can help protect against disease.

So, good news is brewing. Next time you line up for lattes…order a triple shot...of milk! Got coffee comments? Visit gotmilk.com.
